In March 2008 the Consumer Panel published a research report on 'tech savvy' – more advanced users – of communications technology and services, as a way of learning more about those consumers who have already integrated the newest communications technologies into their everyday lives and what if any issues they are facing at an early stage that may feed into the communications market as a whole.

Whilst generally happy, there were a few notes of caution. These concerned people's privacy and the use of personal electronic data by others and the difficulty of navigating a path through the increasingly complex communications market; and a feeling of powerlessness in the face of the changes that these new technologies bring.
