Implementing a landline duty

One of the key policy announcements in the Governments' June 2009 Digital Britain White Paper was the creation of a Next Generation Fund to stimulate the rollout of high-speed broadband or next-generation access (NGA) to the parts of the UK that market-led rollout is unlikely to reach.  The Digital Britain white paper included a commitment to introduce a tax on fixed lines from 2010 to build this Next Generation Fund.

In February 2010 the Communications Consumer Panel responded to an HM Treasury consultation on proposals for a 50p-per-month duty on landlines.  Read our full response here:
